“Babbin’s Abstract Art Bursting with Color Is the Secret to a Happy Home”

Greenwich Magazine

Connecticut abstract artist/designer, Robin Babbin’s work has been described as “playful and abstract, bursting with subtle textures and color.” Greenwich Magazine featured Robin as a favorite local artist, describing her work as “the secret to a happy home using art as the finishing touch.”

BIO

Robin works out of her studio in Westport CT. With a BFA in graphic design from Syracuse University, her career has included graphic, textile, product and interior design. She has studied at Silvermine School of Art and Rowayton Art Center where she continues to experiment with a mix of media and tools. Her work has been exhibited in many juried art shows. She is a proud member of the Artist’s Collective of Westport and the Rowayton Arts Center.

ARTIST STATEMENT

As a textile designer working with artisans in India, I fell in love with the ancient arts of block printing, Ikats, natural dyeing and hand weaving. I saw the beauty in the imperfections created by handwork and organic elements. This aesthetic is often visible in the many layers of my paintings. I alternate between brushwork and hand drawing, articulating and deconstructing, intentional or accidental using a variety of mediums, tools and textures. This process adds depth, marks, color and often pattern. In the layers, new details reveal themself each time I approach the canvas. There is an excitement whenever I enter my studio knowing that each time I begin to work, I do so with a fresh eye. My goal is that whomever the viewer, they will have the same experience!

DESIGNER/STYLIST

As an artist, my goal is simple: to create beautiful, meaningful artwork that clients are proud to display in their homes. What often begins as a conversation about art quickly evolves into a deeper discussion about their home’s overall style. Many clients end up asking for help with styling other elements in the space—like bookcases, tabletops, and furniture. With a background in interior design and years of experience designing retail and showroom spaces, I bring a strong understanding of how to create functional, thoughtfully designed interiors. Whether it’s through personalized artwork, strategic rearranging, or careful editing, transforming a space is always a fun, collaborative process that reflects each client’s unique style and needs.
